Fall Festival of Driving, Sept 12-14, 2014

Our Third Annual
Fall Festival of Driving
Friday – Sunday, September 12 – 14, 2014

Carriage Driving at Touchstone Farm

Join us for a driving-filled weekend of friendly competition, great meals, and the wonderful camaraderie of carriage driving enthusiasts amid the beauty of Touchstone Farm in September. Activities will occur in the rings on high-quality footing, in open fields, and on quiet dirt and paved roads around our farm.

Driving a Dressage Course at Touchstone FarmOur weekend schedule is packed with two days of events for Novice, Junior, and higher-level drivers. ADS members and non-members are most welcome!

Saturday afternoon offers a set of games that test and build your driving skills in the ring, followed by The Great Safari pleasure drive.

Susan Koso has cooked up some dastardly games for us. They're not contests, but you'll want your best driving chops when you play along. Here's a sampling:

  • Make the Word: Drivers drive to the letters in the dressage ring to spell a word that the spectators must guess.
  • Jack and Jill: You, your navigator, a cup of water, and a line of cones.
  • Dum-Dum Dressage: You'll find out.
  • Speedometer: "I can drive those cones in 60 seconds, Bob."

The Great Safari drive is indeed a quest. You can expect a drive of about 3-5 miles on groomed trails through a wildlife preserve with vistas to the mountains. You'll be on the lookout for animals corresponding to a series of clues. Find all the animals and match them with the clues.

Please note: The route is somewhat hilly, and breechings are required.  VSEs may have alternate routes. Participants will go individually or with a companion (i.e., not in a parade).  All drivers must wear helmets, carry a whip, and have a companion on the carriage or driving with them.

Sunday is an ADS-sanctioned horse driving trial consisting of a cones course, dressage test, and 6.5 - 8 km marathon with five obstacles.
