Obtaining PATH Intl. Driving Instructor Certification

To obtain a PATH Intl. Driving Certification, candidates must FIRST complete a PATH Intl. On-Site OR demo-only Driving Workshop as a full participant (not as an auditor) and then pass the PATH Intl. On-Site Driving Certification.

Driving Certification includes practicum portions and examinations, which will determine whether an individual meets the requirements for each level. At the conclusion of the certification, the candidate will be informed of the evaluator’s recommendations for certification of Level l or Level ll. Candidates will be notified of their final results in writing by the PATH Intl. office.

Tina Bennett: Lead Evaluator

Tina has been a Lead Evaluator for PATH Driving Instructor workshop/Certifications; 46-year career of working and training horses for riding and driving; instructor certifications for both riding and driving with PATH International and Michigan 4-H for over 25 years; a licensed USTA Groom, Owner Breeder, Trainer and Driver working with Standardbred’s since 1983; Program Director and Lead Instructor for the 4-H Horseback Riding for the Handicappers Program of Bay County and the Exceptional Horseback Riders of Saginaw County; since 1995 serves on and off the PATH Driving Committee as a committee member or advisor and currently is the committee chair ; manager of Temptation Farm – a breeding, foaling and training facility for Jensen Quarter Horses.

Lauren Fitzgerald: Associate Evaluator

Dually certified PATH Advanced Level and Driving Level III Instructor; a lead registered riding evaluator and lead driving evaluator; graduate of Centenary College’s program of Equine Studies with a concentration in instruction and training; a B.A. in English from Fordham University; active in equine assisted activities for many years and currently works at High Hopes Therapeutic Riding in Old Lyme, CT.; in 2015 received the Sis Gould Driving Award from PATH International.

Space is limited as only 10 applicants can attend the certification. Complete the Touchstone Farm Registration Form (Fillable word form OR print the PDF), the Touchstone Farm Certification Checklist, and the required forms located in the PATH Intl. Application Blooklet.

Overview for PATH Intl. Certificaiton Participants:

All information can be found in the application booklet on the PATH Intl. website. Please complete the application form found on pages 19-29 of the booklet and return with payment to Touchstone Farm. Please become familiar with the prerequisites, evaluation, criteria, and code of ethics before applying. Please use this checklist when submitting the application to Touchstone Farm. Certification cannot be audited.

Accommodation Requests For Participtaion in the Certification

Requests for an accommodation to any part of the workshop must be made in writing and submitted to the PATH Intl. office with the initial application form. All requests for accommodations will be reviewed by the PATH Intl. Driving Certification Subcommittee on an individual basis, and applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision. All requests relating to a medical reason must include a note from your physician. For more information please contact the PATH Intl. office.

Sign Up Early! Due to HIGH demand for this PATH Intl. Driving Certification, be advised, the course may fill quickly. Touchstone Farm has created a “participant friendly” online payment process to reserve your spot at this workshop. All requried forms can be emailed to Kris Young at kyoung@touchstone-farm.org.
COVID-19 protocols Masks will be required indoors and outdoors where social distancing cannot be maintained. We ask that you self-asses each morning for signs and symptoms of Covid-19.
Payment is due at time of application submission, which must be on or before the registration/application deadline of May 2, 2022. If the workshop is cancelled by Touchstone Farm, we will refund your payment in full within 30 days of the registration deadline, or you may use the payment as credit toward another event of your choice held at Touchstone Farm within two years of the registration deadline of cancelled event.
In the event of injury or medical condition that may not necessarily preclude the candidate from completing all portions of the certification, but may affect participation in any way, we recommended that the candidate seek the advice of a physician before participating in any activities that involve exercise, driving, handling or being near horses. It is also the responsibility of the candidate to make PATH Intl., the host site, and faculty aware of such condition.
This PATH Intl. Driving Certification at Touchstone Farm is NON-REFUNDABLE unless cancelled by Touchstone Farm. This is due to the popularity of the program, as well as limited availability and instructor travel requirements nationally.

PATH Certification Schedule:

*It is strongly recommended that you plan to arrive at Touchstone Farm early to be ready to start on time.

Day 1- (Thursday, Jun 2, 2022): 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Mandatory presence for test following Introductions
Day 2- (Friday, Jun 3, 2022): 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Day 3- (Saturday, Jun 4, 2022): 9:00 am until done (approximate 5:00pm). Please do NOT book flights before 7 pm on this day.

Candidates will be given a conference, in person, informing them of the results of their certification. It is hard to determine exactly when each candidate will be informed. Therefore, please do not book flights earlier than 7:00 pm on Saturday, Jun 4, 2022 (if flying out of Manchester airport, it is 1 hour away).
